Race the Night! Adidas Sundown Marathon 2009

This is what happens with abrasions and aches.

KC and me - ecstatic after completing the run.

Dragonboat mates and 2 friends.

Jon helping me put on the D-tag on my shoe. It's to track my timing by the way.

WOOHOOO.............!!!!!
I got my Finisher's Tee and Medal! YES!

The most gruelling run of my life, you'll have to run it to understand the extent of the pain i'm talking about. Somehow, I gotta thank my God. I felt great throughout the run last night. Like somewhat empowered. The real pain was only after around the 32km mark when my cramps and joint pains started became unbearable.
Started slow and steady with Daniel, Benny and Kunshan. It was a perfect match, the 4 of us running together. Kunny's pace is the same as mine whereas Benny and Daniel was alittle faster. The guys constantly kept their pace in check by slowing down for us, which, they claim helped them complete the race without them dying halfway through. Likewise, they help us speed up abit so that we won't be too slow. Mutual benefits haha.
There were a few parts of the route that I particularly like. The loooooong stretch along changi coast road and bedok reservoir was my favorite. For Changi, it was when the planes flew overhead. Can't help but wonder where the passengers are heading to and whatever for. Vacation? Business trip? Or visiting boyfriends like my sis? Oh, and of course, can't help but visualizing the Beast looking smart in the cockpit. Hahaha. As for the reservoir, it was nice looking at the waters with the reflections of the lights coming from the neighbouring estates. There was this kind aunty asking one of the guy runners if he wanted to eat, and she had some Paus with her. So sweet right! Many of the volunteers were rather hyper and encouraging. These definitely made the race more memorable.
I texted my sister at 3am plus after reaching the 21km mark or so. And to my mom at 6am plus when I'm left with 3km? My Hall friends were working as volunteers - road marshalls. Seeing them along the way kept my spirits up. Especially seeing my good friend Tan Shufang haha!
There are 3 animals I wanna thank too. For helping me step up my pace momentarily and for providing me with the temporal adrenaline that I needed through the long night. They are - in order of their respective appearances - the rat, the big black dog, and the cockroach.
This blerdy rat ran across my path at East coast park and I yelped and jumped up. The dog, came right in front of me just as I was overtaking another runner. And my best friend, the roach, when I saw it, obviously I RAN!
Haha.
Of course not forgetting, some of my dear friends' smses and well wishes. And to Lyn for calling me before the race! I hope to complete next year's race before sun up. :)
Now that the marathon is over, it's time to train for the Singapore Dragonboat Festival 2009!
But right now, time to rest my jelly legs.
Did you know??
Yesterday after the race, as I was climbing the stairs from the busstop to home, an AH MA walked up the flight of stairs faster than me! omg.
My sis called me a loser. :(
